Sarah Matanah
has been working with young children for more than a
decade and has been at SCCC for over 8 years. She has
nine year old children who are alumni of SCCC. Her
favorite thing about SCCC is teaching conflict
resolution and watching children work out their
relationships. She loves walking with the Polar Bears
to pools and parks.
Merritt Kanan
joined the SCCC staff in the summer of 2007 after moving
to Minneapolis from Denver, Colorado, where she
previously taught pre-K through 5th grade and
cared for children of all ages. She has a B.A. from

enjoys reading, singing, problem-solving, creating art
and spending time outdoors with the Polar Bears.

His favorite thing about SCCC is the way children learn
to be engaged citizens by being active members of this
democratic school.
Coordinator/Teacher
Sasha Bloomquist
has a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University
of Minnesota. Sasha has worked in several different
schools during her time at the U of M. She started at
SCCC back in November of 2001 working as an aide and
fell in love with the center, children, parents, and
staff. She has since worked in several other positions
here at SCCC as her class schedule at the U of M would
allow. Having graduated in May of 2005 she jumped at the
chance to join the staff full time in August 2005. She
feels that SCCC is a very special and unique place for
children to be and couldn’t imagine working anywhere
else!
