SCCC has no political or religious affiliation. SCCC promotes cooperative behavior, active citizenship, anti-bias skills, environmental awareness, and the development of the whole child in a safe, nurturing environment. SCCC uses High Scope Curriculum. The curriculum is based on the teacher's observations of children. The curriculum provides opportunities for the children to expand their play in self-defined areas of interest through planned activities in all developmental areas (Social & Emotional Development, Approaches to Learning, Language & Literacy Development, Creativity & the Arts, Cognitive Development, and Physical & Motor Development). Most activities in the classroom are child-directed and teacher-facilitated. Each day there are also some developmentally appropriate teacher-directed activities.
SCCC's Teacher Collective evaluates and develops this child care program plan annually.
SCCC uses High Scope's Child Observation Record and High Scope's Toddler Child Observation Record assessment tools to develop goals and assess each child's progress. High Scope's Child Observation Record and High Scope's Toddler Child Observation Record cover all domains of learning including intellectual, social and emotional development.
At SCCC, children are offered daily choices of activities promoting intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Our daily schedules include group times involving story-telling, book-reading, music and movement, discussions. Children are provided manipulatives, books, blocks, and art supplies every day. The cultural backgrounds of the children are considered in the planning and implementation of the activities. Each child's contribution is valued.
SCCC uses High Scope's Child Observation Record and High Scope's Toddler Child Observation Record assessment tools to assess each child's progress. Two conferences are offered to parents each year to discuss the assessment.
Daily schedules are posted in each room. The daily schedule includes indoor and outdoor activities, quiet and active activities, and teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.
SCCC's curriculum provides a variety of activities that require the use of equipment and materials specified in MN DHS Rule 3 specification 9503.0060 Subp. 4 & 5.
SCCC's Child Care Program Plan is located in the office and is available to parents upon request.
